We hope to get a couple of weeks away in France end of August into September and are looking for names of sites within a couple of days easy travelling of Calais. We went down to Provence in May and don't want to do a long trip again for this short stay.
We would like a site on or near coast or river, within walking/biking distance of a town or village. We love the coast of Picardy round the Somme but have not been to the Normandy coast. The Loire is that bit further South so we may get better weather which would be a bonus but we cannot decide on a site there!

The car didn't need service -- I don't do that many miles these days - but considering we were going to be in the south of France for 7 weeks I thought I would get a holiday service done !!

For those of us who are heading off to the Continent, there is a very interesting article on page 62 of the September edition of Pratical Caravan.
It gives all the details of what you are legally obliged to take with you and also gives the CORRECT speed limits in most of the popular destinations.
It certainly opened my eyes particularly with the speed limits in France!
Knocks on the head all the amateurs who insist they know best on many of the forums.
Definitely worth obtaining a copy before you venture forth!!!!!!
Just getting things ready for our trip..
And have been weighing all of my gas bottles so that I can see what I have to use up first so that I can get a new bottle to put on the van for the holiday..
We have several bottles - around the house and garden - for the BBQ and a room heater etc as well as the 7kg blues that we use in the caravan.
Glad to say I found one completely empty - by weight
-- so I will get that filled and it will go in the caravan..
Got me thinking though --
What do others caravaner's take away with them to Europe??

I am going on the Eurotunnel at the end of next week, going solo - no caravan.
I've never done it before, so I have been checking route finders to get some idea of where I will be going.
Tom Tom and Google Earth say to head north east the turn left - but when you look at the satellite picture on GE there would be a lorry heading straight for you.
Both Via Michelin and M$ Autoroute say to head north east then turn right.
Which ones are correct??
If your off to Switzerland this year, Lookout for this nutter .
